GCISD is looking for a highly motivated teacher with strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills for a highly competitive and growing Agriculture program. The Agriculture Science Teacher is expected to possess strong classroom and lab management skills and provide quality instruction in all areas of Agricultural Science. The teacher should have experience in all areas of Agricultural LDE/CDE Contests, supervise agricultural experience projects for county and major stock shows, and be willing to train Leadership Development Events teams and Career Development Events teams. Attendance at FFA contests, leadership camps, and conventions is required when necessary, and the teacher will serve as an additional FFA Advisor. The program is very active with great student numbers, and the department consists of three teachers. Truck and trailers are shared with other teachers for school use.
Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in career and technical education subject areas to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teacher certificate with required endorsements for the subject and level assigned or be eligible for certification relating to relevant clusters and courses under Career & Technical Education
- Demonstrated proficiency in the subject area curriculum
- Ability to effectively work with a diverse group of students
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of the career and technical education subject assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction in the assigned CTE area
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Ability to oversee student field experiences in the assigned career area
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
- Student teaching, approved internship, or three years of wage-earning experience in the area of certification
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Strategies
- Oversee the career and technology training program in the subject area
- Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person, distance, and virtual learning, ensuring they meet district curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation. Accommodate individual student differences.
- Utilize appropriate instructional and learning styles based on student needs, following guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, district policies, and administrative regulations
- Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs
- Coordinate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods
- Assign work to instructional aides and volunteers, and oversee their completion
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities
- Serve as a positive role model and support the district's mission
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a conducive learning environment both in-person and virtually
- Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and handbook
- Ensure safety precautions are followed to protect students and property
- Assist in selecting instructional materials and equipment
- Maintain all required reports and records
Communication
- Be available for communication via phone, email, or video conferencing
- Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members
Professional Growth/Development and Other
- Participate in staff development activities
- Follow regulations and policies for classroom teachers
