Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for the subject and level assigned
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements, with written evidence of preparation.
- Prepare lessons accommodating different student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to TEA, board policies, and regulations.
- Plan and use instructional strategies that reflect understanding of students' learning styles and needs.
- Conduct assessments of student learning styles and use results to plan instruction.
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs.
- Coordinate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) assignments.
Student Growth and Development
- Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned, including sponsoring approved outside activities.
- Model positive behavior and support the school district's mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a conducive learning environment suitable for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
- Ensure safety precautions to protect students and property.
- Assist in selecting instructional materials.
- Maintain open communication with parents, students, staff, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills for clear information delivery.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities.
- Stay informed of relevant regulations and policies.
- Maintain necessary reports and records.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
Working Conditions:
Mental and physical demands include maintaining emotional control under stress, frequent movement, and handling classroom equipment and materials.
