Primary Purpose
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
- Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned
- [Physical Education Teachers: Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current AED and CPR certificate]
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Terms Of Employment
Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days
Salary
Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees
Essential Functions
Attendance
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of students' learning styles and needs, presenting subject matter according to TEA, district, and school policies.
- Coordinate with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEP guidelines and collaborate with staff on instructional goals and methods.
Student Growth and Development
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities or outside activities for which you are the sponsor.
- Be a positive role model supporting the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students' physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage student behavior following the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary precautions to ensure safety of students, equipment, and facilities.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
- Maintain and file reports, records, and documents as required.
Communication
- Maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities.
- Comply with all relevant regulations and policies.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise instructional aide(s), if assigned.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Use of personal computer and instructional equipment.
- Prolonged standing, frequent movement, and lifting (less than 15 pounds).
- Work inside and outside with exposure to noise.
- Maintain emotional control under stress and work irregular hours.
