Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned
  • [Physical Education Teachers: Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current AED and CPR certificate]
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

Essential Functions
Attendance
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and technology that reflect understanding of students’ learning styles and needs. Present subject matter according to TEA, district, and school policies.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed per IEPs and coordinate with staff on instructional goals and methods.
Student Growth and Development
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for approved extracurricular or outside activities as sponsor.
  • Be a positive role model; support the mission of the district.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and development.
  • Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and maintain required reports and records.
Communication
  • Maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities.
  • Comply with regulations and policies.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise instructional aide(s), if assigned.

Physical and Environmental Demands
  • Use of personal computer and instructional equipment.
  • Prolonged standing, frequent movement, and light lifting.
  • Work environment may include indoor and outdoor settings with noise exposure.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress and work irregular hours.
