Under the authority of the Juvenile Board, the Educational Services Division offers educational programs for expelled students, delinquent youth in county-operated juvenile institutions, and students on probation seeking alternatives to traditional high school settings. All youth placed by the courts in Harris County juvenile detention and residential facilities receive educational services through the comprehensive academic program of Excel Academy Charter School. This program is funded by the Texas Education Agency, along with state and federal grants. Excel Academy Charter School offers both a regular school year program and a summer school program to help students continuously enhance their educational skills.
