Job summary

HeartShare invites a compassionate Teacher to join our team in promoting a warm, inclusive environment for young leaders with special needs in preschool settings.

You will develop and implement IEPs, provide individualized support, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to monitor progress and adapt instruction accordingly.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in special education is required or strongly preferred.
  • N.Y.S. Approved Certification for Students with Disabilities required/active.
  • Experience with IEP processes and multidisciplinary collaboration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and small group academic and behavior support.
  • Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings.
  • Deliver IEP mandated instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with Education Coordinator and behavior support staff.
  • Track progress with formative and summative assessments.
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers with progress updates.

Job description

We are thrilled to invite a compassionate and dedicated Teacher to join our Team! We are seeking an educator who will create a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment that empowers young leaders with special needs to thrive. In this role, you’ll work closely with children, particularly in preschool settings, providing individualized support and engaging, adaptive activities tailored to each child’s unique strengths. As a teacher, you’ll guide students in our specialized program, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) to promote their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities of Position:Provide individual and/or small group academic and behavior support interventions for studentsPrepare for and participate in IEP meetings of studentsPrepare IEP mandated instruction to students with disabilitiesParticipate in meetings that focus on reviewing data to identify or adjust interventions for students who are not meeting grade level benchmarksCollaborate closely with Education Coordinator, behavior support staff, and other RS ProvidersCollect pre/post assessment data and ongoing progress monitoring dataCommunicate regularly with caregivers and provide progress updatesCollaborating in an interdisciplinary planning and teaching team that meets the needs of all studentsImplementing curriculum and assessments that are aligned to Common Core Learning/NYS StandardsUsing data gathered through formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planningPracticing an open-door policy that encourages collaboration and development of best practice pedagogyServing as an advisor to a small group of students, including maintaining ongoing communication with parents/guardiansInitiating partnerships and mentoring relations with HeartShare personnel and faculty to enhance school experiences and develop external learning experiencesMaintaining regular and open communication with families by providing regular written updates on student progress and creating opportunities for family participation, inclusion, and collaborationCommunicating student achievement data with parents and families through TEAMSTaking on duties that support classroom teaching (meeting in departments, implementing school policy, being an active part of school decision-making, communicating with parents throughout the school year to support student achievement, etc.)Participate in emergency interventions, PBIS, and team meetings.Uphold and demonstrate PBIS values in the classroom and school wide.Participate in staff development and school-wide meetings leading up to annual CSE reviews.Performs other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.N.Y.S.
