The Role

As a teacher, you will serve as the primary instructional resource for our students, delivering competency-based content, supporting personalized learning, and guiding students toward graduation and post-secondary success. Unlike traditional classroom teaching roles, teachers operate in a personalized, flexible learning environment where instruction is delivered primarily through individualized coaching, small-group support, and targeted, data-driven interventions.

Using academy dashboards and student data systems, you will proactively identify off-track students and provide timely academic support to keep them progressing toward graduation. You will work with a collaborative team to provide academic, social-emotional, and career-oriented support that empowers each learner’s journey.

Key Responsibilities
Enrollment
  • Support new student enrollment through recruitment and engagement efforts.
  • Assist with the development of Personalized Learning Plans for students.
Retention
  • Serve as an advisor for assigned students by maintaining communication with learners and their support team.
  • Monitor attendance, academic progress, and overall wellness to ensure consistent engagement and achievement.
Academics
  • Plan and deliver content-area instruction in both individual and small-group settings.
  • Maintain strong ownership of student progress toward course completion, credit accumulation, and graduation readiness goals using formative and summative assessments and academy data systems.
  • Analyze and use academic data to inform instruction and improve outcomes.
  • Provide remediation and enrichment opportunities to address learning gaps and accelerate success.
  • Participate in professional development, data meetings, and school/community events.
Advocacy
  • Collaborate with the student support team to develop personalized learning pathways, transition strategies, and incentive plans.
  • Represent the academy in community events and contribute to academy-wide initiatives.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary academy team including Student Advocates, Professional School Counselors, and academy leadership to provide coordinated wrap-around support.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the academy’s mission.
What We’re Looking For
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • Certification (REQUIRED): Valid state teaching certification for grades 6–12 or 9–12 in one of the following content areas: Math, English/ELA, Social Studies, Special Education, or Science.
  • Experience: 2+ years of teaching experience (high school preferred).
  • Skills: Strong communication, time management, instructional planning, and collaboration skills.
  • Passion: A deep commitment to helping at-risk youth succeed academically and personally.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience working in non-traditional or at-risk youth settings.
    • Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
    • Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and alternative education models.
    • Experience with competency-based learning, instructional coaching, or project-based education.
    • Demonstrated ability to use learning management systems (LMS), student information systems (SIS), and data dashboards to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
