Job Description

Title: Elementary Teacher

Work Unit/Location: Assigned Work Site

Reports to: Site Principal

Supervises: Students

Contract Length: 163 days, 4-day week

Pay Schedule: Per approved salary schedule

Overtime Status: Must be approved

Hours: 7:21 am – 3:45 pm

Licensure: NMPED Teaching Licensure

Qualifications

Valid New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) teaching license with appropriate elementary endorsement(s) for assignment.
Properly certified in all assigned content areas and grade levels.
Bilingual Endorsement preferred and/or required based upon assignment.
Demonstrated knowledge of elementary instructional practices, child development, curriculum implementation, and assessment practices.
Demonstrates cooperativeness, professionalism, flexibility, and willingness to carry out assigned duties and performance responsibilities.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members.

Performance Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned to New Mexico Content Standards, district curriculum, and instructional expectations.
Teach reading, language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, health, physical education, art, and other assigned elementary content areas utilizing district-approved curriculum and instructional practices.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Translate curriculum into meaningful learning experiences that maximize instructional time and student engagement.
Utilize a variety of instructional strategies including small-group instruction, intervention, project-based learning, technology integration, and student-centered instructional practices.
Incorporate bilingual instructional practices and language supports where appropriate and applicable.
Maintain lesson plans and instructional documentation as required by district expectations.

MLSS Implementation and Student Support

Implement the district’s Multi-Layered System of Supports (MLSS) framework through universal instruction, targeted interventions, progress monitoring, and data-based decision making.
Participate in student support teams and collaborate with intervention staff to develop, implement, monitor, and adjust academic and behavioral supports.
Identify student academic, behavioral, attendance, and social-emotional needs and coordinate appropriate interventions and services.
Establish and maintain expectations for student behavior that support a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning through effective organization, displays, instructional materials, and student engagement.

Assessment and Student Achievement

Assess and monitor student academic and social growth using formal and informal assessment measures aligned to district and state expectations.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessment results, intervention documentation, and student performance data.
Analyze student achievement and progress-monitoring data to develop and implement instructional adjustments and improvement strategies.
Prepare and communicate progress reports in accordance with district procedures.
Administer district and state assessments, standardized tests, language assessments, and benchmark assessments as assigned.
Administer language proficiency assessments in accordance with district and state guidelines.

Communication and Collaboration

Maintain timely and effective communication with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress, attendance, and behavior concerns.
Communicate proactively with families through conferences, meetings, outreach efforts, and ongoing progress updates.
Collaborate with colleagues, intervention staff, counselors, and administration to support student achievement and school improvement efforts.
Participate in curriculum alignment, benchmark development, assessment review, bilingual education implementation, and Educational Plan for Student Success (EPSS) activities.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities (PLCs), committees, and parent engagement activities as assigned.

Professional Responsibilities

Maintain professional competencies through district professional development, licensure requirements, and self-directed learning.
Participate cooperatively in evaluation processes in accordance with district procedures and professional growth expectations.
Implement district initiatives, Board policies, and instructional expectations.
Select and maintain instructional materials and required inventory records.
Supervise students during assigned duties and extracurricular activities.
Sponsor and support student activities as assigned.
Attend meetings and district events as requested by administration.
Demonstrate professional accountability through attendance, punctuality, ethical conduct, and effective stewardship of district resources.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent, or designee.

Term of Employment

Term of employment shall be established annually through adoption of the official school calendar and employment contract.

Salary

Salary shall be established annually through adoption of the district salary schedule.

Evaluation

Performance of this position shall be evaluated in accordance with Board policy, district procedures, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and provisions governing evaluation of licensed instructional personnel.

Additional Qualifications

Must have a NMPED Elementary K-8 Teaching License. Preferably with an endorsement in Bilingual and/or TESOL. Professional Personnel.
