Evergy is seeking a TD Designer in Wichita, KS, to meet with customers, assess electrical needs, and outline design expectations before estimating materials, labor, and costs for installation and maintenance of electric infrastructure.
The role involves coordinating permitting, real estate, utility coordination, and engineering approvals with city, county, state, and consultant engineers, while working under minimal direction.
Monday - Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Additional hours as specified)
Under minimal direction, the TD Designer meets with customers to assess electrical needs, define requirements, and outline expectations of the design and construction processes before estimating materials, labor and costs for installation, modification, and maintenance of electric infrastructure. Once optimal designs are developed, TD Designers coordinate permitting, material orders, real‑estate acquisition, utility coordination, and engineering approvals from company, city, county, state, and consultant engineers.
A high school education is required. A bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, or related field, and/or two years of related experience is highly preferred. Related experience includes background in construction and maintenance of distribution assets and facilities, project management, or electrical construction.
Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job.
Upon hire, individual will be assigned a training mentor and enrolled in the Evergy Distribution Designer Training Program. This program consists of 6,000 hours of on the job learning involving workbook progression, exams (written and verbal), and cross‑training with applicable departments.
Valid driver’s license required.
Prior to being considered for an interview, the applicant will be required to pass the EEI prequalification test.
70% of work is performed in an office with 30% in the field. Occasional travel to other locations within the Company and overnight travel may be required. Position may require work beyond normal working hours depending on workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts. Must have excellent work record, including performance evaluations, and attendance.
