Job Description
Responsibilities
- Interview patients to determine medical problems/conditions and document in the chart (EMR). When necessary, obtain and record vital signs including weight. Assist physicians with patient examinations as needed. Explain procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation, understanding, and to allay apprehension. Maintain awareness of patient comfort and safety needs. Manage lipids, prothrombin times, and phone triage of patient concerns.
- Follow up on physician orders and lab requests. Obtain directions from physicians as needed. Inform patients of test results and further treatments prescribed. Provide explanations and education to patients. Document services performed in EMR for billing purposes. Observe patient conditions, record significant reactions, and notify supervisors or physicians of any concerns. Assist physicians in clinical care of patients.
- Document nursing history and physical assessments in EMR for assigned patients. Initiate patient education plans tailored to individual needs as prescribed by the physician.
- Abstract patient records via EMR. Perform chart preparation and sorting as needed, though not as a routine task. Utilize EMR functions such as tasking, messaging, and disease management. Use Centricity and other relevant software to support nursing functions.
- Respond to emergency situations following nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols. Maintain crash cart and defibrillator readiness.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:

Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- The Christ Hospital Health Network hires AD and Diploma nurses; BSN preferred.
Experience:
- 3 years RN experience preferred.
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Use of defibrillator, blood pressure monitor, EKG equipment, treadmill, and crash cart maintenance.
- Proficiency with copier, fax, and computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Centricity, EMR preferred).
Licenses & Certifications:
- Licensed RN by State Board.
- Certified in BLS required.
