Job summary

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) seeks an experienced Engineer III to join the Water Supply Division in Austin.

You will perform in-office and on-site engineering reviews, provide technical assistance to water systems, and support the agency’s drinking water program with clear, professional communication.

The role also includes mentoring staff and serving as a subject matter expert while ensuring compliance with laws and policies through diligent analysis.

Qualifications

• Texas Professional Engineer’s license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.
• Qualifying work experience after licensure (e.g., as an engineering graduate student or teacher).
• One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II."
• Transcript or CAPPS credential evaluation may be required to meet qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and engineering assistance to public water systems through verbal communication, email, meetings, on-site assistance, and presentations.

• Provide training and mentoring to staff; serve as a subject matter expert engineer for assigned programs/topics.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ Office of Water, you would help support the logistical and operational structure for TCEQ statewide -- the business foundation for the whole agency.

This position is a member of our Water Supply Division.

Here’s What You’ll Be Doing

• Conduct in office and/or on-site engineering and technical reviews, analyses, quality control and evaluations of routine to highly complex information from internal and external customers to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; and follow up with appropriate actions.
• Provide information and engineering assistance concerning requests and submittals from public water systems to internal and external customers through verbal communication, email, correspondence, meetings, on-site assistance, and presentations.
• Provide customer service to internal and external customers related to the agency’s drinking water program through verbal and written communication, correspondence, reports, meetings, presentations, and responses to Public Information Requests (PIRs).
• Provide training and mentoring to other staff. Serve as a subject matter expert engineer for assigned programs/topics.

Required Education & Experience

Engineer III

Texas Professional Engineer’s license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.

Qualifying work experience that obtained post-licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Career Ladder Progression

One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. WORK SCHEDULE

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Austin Office.
