Job description

As a Crew Member, you will provide support to specialist neonatal and paediatric clinicians during TCAA transfers, working alongside our team of Pilots and Airdesk Coordinators.

Reporting to the Operations Team Leader for TCAA, you will be based at Retford (Gamston) Airport on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). The role offers a salary of £33,197 along with our staff benefits package.

This non-clinical role does not involve direct patient care but requires a clinical background to understand the importance of teamwork, working in a clinical setting, handling medical devices, and supporting safe patient transfers.

Our current team includes Crew Members from Emergency Care Assistants, Ambulance Technicians, Associate Practitioners, and Paramedics backgrounds.

You will serve as the technical expert for the TCAA interior, stretcher system, and incubator, providing support and troubleshooting. You will also ensure aircraft and base readiness for operations.

Main duties of the job
  1. Work closely with the Head of Operations, Operations Team Leader, Pilots, and Airdesk Staff, and support interdepartmental relationships.
  2. Collaborate with Clinical Partner Teams (CPTs), hospital staff, ambulance crews, helipad staff, airport staff, and visitors.
  3. Respond to tasking requests, ensure equipment readiness, and support operational tasks.
  4. Assist with patient loading/unloading, securing patients and equipment, and supporting CPTs during transfers.
  5. Follow safety procedures, including SOPs, airfield security, and emergency support.
  6. Provide basic life support in emergencies involving CPTs or crew.
  7. Promote Crew Resource Management and adhere to safety regulations.

Person Specification
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C or above), qualified as Emergency Ambulance Crew, Emergency Care Assistant, or higher.
  • Full UK manual driving license, CPD evidence, 5+ years healthcare experience.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal skills, confidentiality, physical fitness, resilience, and flexibility to work shifts and cover bases.
  • Experience in emergency care, retrieval services, or critical care transfers is preferred.
