Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ seeks a tax professional to lead U.S. income tax compliance and ASC 740 accounting, focusing on technology-driven transformation and AI-enabled solutions.

You will collaborate across Tax, Finance, IT, and Legal to automate processes, improve data flows, and ensure accurate tax reporting. The role requires 3+ years in U.S. tax and tax technology, with hands-on experience in Corptax and OneSource, and a strong data-analytics mindset.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in U.S. tax compliance, tax accounting, tax technology, and related corporate tax functions.
• Experience preparing Federal Form 1120 and state/local corporate income tax returns.
• Working knowledge of ASC 740 for U.S. Federal and State tax matters.
• Strong data fluency and experience with automation, analytics, and data manipulation technologies.
• Experience with AI-enabled technologies and applying AI in tax processes.
• Ability to translate business requirements into improved tax workflows or technology solutions.
• Experience with tax compliance software such as Corptax and OneSource Tax Provision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual and quarterly U.S. income tax provisions under U.S. GAAP and book/tax adjustments.
• Ensure ASC 740 compliance, deferred tax entries, and reconciliations.
• Prepare U.S. consolidated Federal and State income/franchise tax returns with attachments.
• Calculate quarterly estimated payments and annual extensions.
• Assist in responses to IRS/state notices and audit inquiries.
• Support SOX-related activities and strengthen internal controls and procedures.
• Identify manual activities and opportunities for automation and standardization.
• Develop and support automated tax workflows using Alteryx, Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI.
• Explore AI-enabled solutions for data gathering, reconciliations, and workflow orchestration.
• Apply Copilot/ Gemini to develop AI-assisted tax processes with proper governance.
• Document automated processes and promote knowledge transfer and sustainability.
