Job summary

Apex Group in New York seeks a Tax Managing Director to lead the U.S. Tax Practice, driving strategy, client relations, and delivery of tax advisory services for private equity, hedge funds, real estate, and other alternative investments.

You will mentor senior teams, oversee cross-border tax matters, and expand market presence while ensuring exceptional client service and delivery excellence.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, financial services, consulting, fund administration, or a law firm environment.
• Active CPA license required and JD preferred.
• Deep expertise in partnership taxation, alternative investment funds, international tax reporting, state and local taxation, fund structuring, investor tax planning, and foreign investor withholding regimes.
• Demonstrated success developing client relationships, generating new business, and managing large engagement teams and client portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the U.S. Tax Practice strategy, driving growth, service innovation, and talent development.
• Lead business development initiatives, client pursuits, proposals, presentations, and cross-selling opportunities.
• Advise clients on tax-efficient structuring and complex tax matters for various investment structures.
• Oversee complex tax matters including international reporting, FATCA, and withholding regimes.
• Represent clients in IRS/state examinations and manage remediation of tax issues.
• Mentor and develop Senior Managers, Managers, Seniors, and Associates to strengthen technical and leadership capacity.
