Job summary

H&R Block, Inc. is seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to apply accounting principles and tax expertise to analyze financial information, prepare tax statements and returns, and support audits.

You will mentor peers, drive improvements, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations while delivering timely outputs to clients. The role requires collaboration with associates, staying current on tax codes, and providing guidance on financial and tax matters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 3+ years of individual tax return experience, including at least 1 year preparing business/entity returns and 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and tax regulations; ability to interpret and apply complex policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, bookkeeping software, spreadsheets, databases, and other financial technology tools.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a client-service mindset.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
  • Completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment, Income Tax Course (or equivalent), and Tax Accountant Assessment, with the ability to work independently and deliver projects on time.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax statements, financial statements, and BAS statements at required intervals.
  • Create and return statements and documents to clients by set deadlines.
  • Prepare business income tax returns and statements for audits.
  • Manage tax administration responsibilities including tax code research, tax return preparation, and tax planning.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize tax liability through deductions and credits.
  • Engage regularly with clients and maintain strong relationships.
  • Stay current with federal and state tax laws, regulatory and compliance requirements, and tax planning techniques.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analysis of accounts for assigned lines of business; validate data accuracy from subsystems.
  • Process subsystems or subsidiary interfaces; validate data accuracy and completeness; follow up on issues.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Associate Tax Strategists as needed.

About the Role

Apply accounting principles and tax expertise to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports, and complete corporate, partnership, individual, and business tax returns. This role is responsible for preparing tax statements, supporting audits, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and providing guidance on financial and tax matters. The position also serves as a mentor to peers by sharing knowledge and supporting skill development while driving continuous improvement initiatives. Success in this role requires accurately processing complex financial information and maintaining compliance with all reporting and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare tax statements, financial statements, and BAS statements at required intervals
  • Create and return statements and documents to clients by set deadlines
  • Preparing business income tax returns and statements for audits
  • Manage tax administration responsibilities required of assigned accounts include tax code research, tax return preparation, and tax planning
  • Identifying opportunities to minimize tax liability through deductions and credits.
  • Engage regularly with clients and maintain strong relationships
  • Stay current with knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulatory and compliance requirements, and tax planning techniques. Regularly research financial landscape and market trends
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analysis of accounts for assigned lines of business. Validate the accuracy of data from subsystems
  • Process subsystems or subsidiary interfaces. Validate the accuracy and completeness of the interfaced data. Perform follow up and resolution of determined issues
  • Provides guidance and assistance to Associate Tax Strategists as needed
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Mid-level knowledge of tax law and statutory regulations
