Job description

Location: New York Metro

Work Arrangement: Hybrid – approximately 3 days per week in office

Experience: 8+ Years

CPA Required

A leading national CPA and advisory firm is looking for an experienced Tax Senior Manager to join its growing Private Client Services practice in New York.

This is a senior client-facing position focused on advising ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families and Family Offices whose tax affairs span personal wealth, trusts, investments, partnerships, closely held businesses and multigenerational family interests.

You'll take ownership of significant client relationships, lead complex tax engagements and work directly with Partners on both the technical and strategic needs of sophisticated private clients.

For someone already operating at Senior Manager level—or an experienced Manager ready for greater responsibility—the position provides a strong platform toward Director and Partner-level leadership.

The Private Client Practice

The team works with individuals and families whose financial affairs rarely fit neatly into a single tax return.

Clients may have interests across operating businesses, partnerships, trusts, investment entities and family structures, requiring the team to understand the wider picture rather than treating each entity independently.

You'll work closely with clients and their other professional advisors to provide coordinated tax compliance and planning across their personal and business interests.

Your Role

As Tax Senior Manager, you'll act as a senior point of contact across a portfolio of UHNW and Family Office relationships.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead complex Private Client tax engagements from planning through completion.
  • Review sophisticated individual, trust, partnership and S Corporation tax returns.
  • Review amended returns and other complex compliance assignments.
  • Oversee tax planning and compliance across multiple related entities and family structures.
  • Research technical federal and state tax matters.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and potential areas of exposure.
  • Manage responses to IRS and state tax notices and review related correspondence.
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive personal and family financial information.
  • Coordinate engagement timelines, staffing and deliverables.
  • Maintain oversight of engagement economics and client billing.
  • Work directly with Partners on significant technical and relationship matters.
Own the Client Relationship

A major part of this position is developing trusted, long-term relationships with sophisticated private clients.

You'll serve as a primary point of contact, ensuring clients understand where engagements stand, what information is required and any issues or planning opportunities that arise.

You'll be expected to understand the client's wider circumstances—not simply their annual compliance requirements—and develop relationships across individuals, family members and related entities.

That means being comfortable communicating with business owners, executives, Family Office professionals and other advisors while explaining complex tax matters in a practical way.

Leadership & Development

You'll also play an important role in developing the wider Private Client team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead teams of Managers, Seniors and Associates across client engagements.
  • Review work and provide clear technical direction.
  • Train professionals on individual, trust and pass-through taxation.
  • Mentor developing tax professionals and support their career progression.
  • Delegate effectively while maintaining responsibility for overall engagement quality.
  • Encourage collaboration across complex client relationships.
  • Contribute to internal technical training and knowledge sharing.

At Senior Manager level, you'll increasingly work alongside Partners on practice development, important client relationships and broader growth initiatives.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • 8+ years of tax experience within public accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Active CPA licence required.
  • Significant experience working with high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
  • Strong experience with individual and fiduciary taxation.
  • Knowledge of Forms 1040, 1041, 1065 and 1120-S.
  • Experience managing complex client relationships.
  • Strong federal and state tax research capabilities.
  • Experience supervising and developing tax professionals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong professional judgement and discretion.
  • Ability to manage multiple sophisticated engagements simultaneously.
  • Confidence communicating directly with senior clients and professional advisors.

Experience with ProSystem, GoSystem, CCH Engagement or similar professional tax platforms would be beneficial.

Why Consider It?

This is an opportunity to move further away from being purely a technical reviewer and toward becoming a senior advisor to some of the firm's most sophisticated private clients.

You'll have:

  • A dedicated Private Client Services platform.
  • Significant exposure to UHNW individuals and Family Offices.
  • Complex individual, fiduciary and pass-through tax work.
  • Ownership of important client relationships.
  • Direct access to experienced Private Client Partners.
  • Leadership responsibility across Managers, Seniors and Associates.
  • Opportunities to participate in thought leadership, webinars and client seminars.
  • Hybrid working flexibility.
  • Comprehensive benefits and generous PTO.
  • Continued technical and leadership development.
  • A clear platform for progression toward Director and Partner.

For a Private Client tax professional who has developed strong technical foundations but now wants greater client ownership, leadership responsibility and a route toward the top of the practice, this is a compelling next step.
