Job summary

SST Accountants & Consultants is seeking a Tax Senior Associate in the Dallas area to lead and deliver routine and complex tax compliance and consulting projects. You will interact with clients, supervise junior staff, and help manage the tax lifecycle from planning to filing.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA candidate status, and at least 3 years of public accounting experience. Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Office is essential.

  • Minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review intern and associate prepared work and complex tax returns (Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041, 990).
  • Prepare tax projections, estimated tax payments, and file extensions for individuals and entities.
  • Assist with payroll and informational filings (Forms 941, 940, W-2, 1099, state filings).
  • Maintain and review accounting records, posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and reclassifications.
  • Support federal and state tax audits, and assist with tax planning projects.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and team members to ensure accuracy and responsiveness.
  • Manage client deliverables to meet deadlines and budget parameters.
  • Track time daily for billing and workflow management.

Job Summary

SST is seeking a Tax Senior Associate in the Dallas area.

The Tax Senior Associate is a key member of the tax team responsible for managing and delivering routine projects and taking on key roles incomplex tax compliance and consulting projects for a diverse portfolio of clients. This role involves preparing and reviewing tax returns, conducting technical tax research, and assisting with strategic planning initiatives. The Tax Senior serves as a bridge between staff and management, taking on increased responsibility for client communication, project oversight, and staff development. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing excellent client service. They are expected to manage multiple priorities, contribute to team performance, and begin developing leadership skills through supervising junior staff and supporting client relationships.

Major Responsibilities & Duties
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review intern and associate prepared work and preparation of complex projects for a variety of federal and state tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, 1120, 1041, and 990.
  • Prepare tax projections, calculate estimated tax payments, and file extensions for individuals and entities.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual payroll and informational filings, including Forms 941, 940, W-2, 1099, and applicable state filings (e.g., TWC).
  • Maintain and review accounting records, including posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and recording reclassifications.
  • Support federal and state tax audits, respond to IRS and state notices, and assist with special consulting and tax planning projects.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with clients and internal team members to ensure clarity, accuracy, and responsiveness.
  • Manage assigned client deliverables to ensure completion by deadlines and within established budget parameters.
  • Accurately track time daily for billing, engagement monitoring, and workflow management purposes.
  • Actively participate in client meetings with supervision displaying professionalism, technical knowledge, and attentive communication.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to resolve technical issues and enhance engagement outcomes.
  • Provide proactive status updates, raise potential issues early, and contribute solution-oriented recommendations.
Accounting Support
  • Perform client accounting functions as needed, including:
    • Reviewing general ledger activity for completeness and accuracy.
    • Completing bank and credit card reconciliations.
    • Recording fixed assets and calculating depreciation in accordance with tax guidelines.
  • Communicate with clients to address accounting related questions and make recommendations for improvement as opportunities arise.
Requirements & Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Previous Tax Public Accounting Firm Experience
  • Review of less complex tax returns
  • Assisted with intern/staff training and development
Proficiency in:
  • Proficient in tax preparation and research software (e.g., CCH Axcess, CCH AnswerConnect, Engagement Manager).
  • QuickBooks (Desktop and Online)
  • Microsoft Products (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams)
  • Adobe Acrobat
Performance Expectations:
  • Billable Hours Target:1,650 hours annually (adjusted based on experience and firm goals).
  • Realization Rate Goal:85% or higher.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required)
  • CPA candidate or actively pursuing CPA eligibility
  • Minimum of 3 years of public accounting experience
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
