Job summary

UHY is seeking a Tax Senior Accountant in Massachusetts to prepare individual and business tax returns, manage client relationships, and supervise staff in a professional firm environment.

You will lead engagements, perform tax research, develop proactive planning strategies, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws while collaborating with partners and managers to deliver high‑quality service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 3–6 years of relevant tax experience.
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent licensure in progress preferred.
  • Experience with Prosystem FX and tax research platforms.
  • Ability to supervise staff and manage client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a portfolio of tax engagements, including planning, preparation, and review of various tax returns.
  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned clients, addressing tax questions and fostering relationships.
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure seamless service delivery and alignment with firm objectives.
  • Conduct tax research and analysis to develop proactive planning strategies.
  • Supervise and mentor tax staff to ensure quality work.

JOB SUMMARYAs a Tax Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for the preparation of financial information for our clients, such as business and individual tax returns, with the benefit of gaining exposure to a diverse client base operating in a variety of industries. The Tax Senior Accountant maintains client relationships and oversees the work of internal staff and works closely with internal leaders, to ensure high-quality work is conducted and delivered to our clients.JOB DESCRIPTIONTax PreparationLead and manage a portfolio of tax engagements, including planning, preparation, and review of various tax returns (individual, corporate, partnership, etc.)Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, addressing their tax-related inquiries, providing recommendations, and fostering strong client relationshipsCollaborate with partners and managers to ensure seamless client service delivery and alignment with overall firm objectivesResearch and AnalysisConduct thorough tax research and analysis to develop proactive tax planning strategies for clients, identifying opportunities to minimize tax liabilities and optimize financial outcomesCollaborate with the internal team to assist in providing expert guidance on complex tax matters, including mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and other business transactionsClient CommunicationEffectively communicate complex tax concepts and strategies to clients, tailoring explanations to their understanding and addressing their questions or concernsPrepare and deliver presentations to clients on tax-related matters, providing insights into their financial situations and potential tax implicationsCompliance and DocumentationReview and oversee the preparation of tax returns to ensure accuracy, compliance with regulations, and adherence to internal quality control standardsMonitor and manage tax filing deadlines, extensions, and other compliance requirements to avoid penalties and ensure timely submissionsStay current with federal, state, and local tax laws, regulations, and changes, ensuring the firm and its clients are compliant with the latest tax requirementsTeam CollaborationCollaborate with other tax professionals within the firm to share insights, knowledge, and best practicesSupervise and mentor tax staff, providing guidance, training, and feedback to foster their professional growth and ensure the quality of their workCultivate a collaborative team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and effective communication among team membersParticipate in internal training sessions to enhance your technical skills and stay updated on industry trendsProcess Improvement and InnovationIdentify opportunities to enhance tax workflows, processes, and methodologies, contributing to the continuous improvement of the firm's tax servicesSupervisory responsibilitiesMay supervise subordinate team membersWork environmentWork is conducted in a professional office environment with minimal distractionsPhysical demandsProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and performing work in front of a computer screen for long periods of timeMust be able to lift to 15 pounds at a timeTravel requiredTravel may be frequent and unpredictable, depending on client’s needsRequired education and experienceBachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field3 – 6 years of relevant experienceSoftware: CCH Prosystem FX, Axcess Tax, Axcess Document, Axcess Workstream, Thomson Reuters Fixed Assets CS, Checkpoint for Tax ResearchPreferred education and experienceExperience in professional service environment, such as a CPA firm, financial consulting firm, or similar settingActively working towards achieving CPA or Enrolled Agent licensure or relevant certification, if not already attainedResponsible for completing the minimum CPE credit requirementOther dutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the colleague for this job.
