Job summary

Withum is seeking a Tax Senior to join our Tax Services Group across our Lincolnshire, IL; East Brunswick, NJ; Princeton, NJ; Red Bank, NJ; or Whippany, NJ offices. You will lead tax engagements, mentor staff, and build client relationships while ensuring timely tax returns and compliance.

The role requires 3–5 years in public accounting tax and a CPA or progress toward CPA, with strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Hybrid work model offered with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required; CPA is preferred or in progress.
• Licensed CPA, or working toward CPA certification.
• Masters of Science in Taxation is preferred but not required.
• 3–5 years of prior experience in the tax department of a public accounting firm.
• Excellent analytical and technical tax skills.
• Exceptional client service and communication skills to build client relationships.
• Ability to manage multiple engagements in a fast-paced team environment.
• Strong leadership, training and mentoring abilities; excellent presentation skills.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Preparing complex individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns.
• Reviewing mid-level complexity returns for accuracy.
• Researching and drafting memoranda on complex tax matters.
• Identifying tax planning opportunities for clients.
• Handling and resolving tax controversies.
• Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to meet deadlines.
• Providing supervision and training to engagement staff and liaising with management.

Job Description:

Withum's Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, counting our affiliation with HLB international, allows them to help develop economical tax strategies anywhere. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as International and Private Client services.

As a Tax Senior based out of our Lincolnshire, IL; East Brunswick, NJ; Princeton, NJ; Red Bank, NJ; or Whippany, NJ office, you'll work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well-known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of tax engagements, supervise/mentor staff, and build/maintain relationships with clients.

How You'll Spend Your Time:

• Preparing complex individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns

• Reviewing mid-level complexity individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns prepared by tax staffforaccuracy

• Researching and drafting memorandum involving complex tax matters

• Identifying tax planning opportunities

• Handling and resolve tax controversies

• Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines

• Providing supervision, training and support to the engagement staff and promote open communication to the engagement partner and manager

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

• Licensed CPA, or working towards CPA certification

• Masters of Science in Taxation is preferred but not required

• 3-5 years of prior experience working in the tax department of a public accounting

• Excellent analytical and technical tax skills

• Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships

• Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing projects in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment

• Strong leadership, training, and mentoring skills, coupled with excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to represent the Firm well to client's management

• Excellent analytical, organizational, project management skills, and strong attention to detail

• Ability to travel as needed

The compensation ranges for this position are noted below. In addition to the base compensation, Withum offers a competitive benefits package and bonus program (for eligible roles) based on individual and firm performance. Final offer amounts are based on multiple factors such as the specific role, hiring location, as well as the individual's skills, experience and qualifications.
