Job summary

Withum is seeking a Tax Senior to lead engagements from our Lincolnshire, IL and New Jersey offices. You will supervise staff, mentor juniors, and foster strong client relationships while delivering complex tax returns and planning opportunities.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Accounting, CPA (or in progress), 3–5 years at a public accounting firm, and strong communication. Travel to multiple engagements and clients may be required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare complex individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns.
• Review mid-level complexity returns prepared by staff for accuracy.
• Research and draft memoranda on complex tax matters.
• Identify tax planning opportunities for clients.
• Handle and resolve tax controversies.
• Manage multiple engagements with different teams to meet deadlines.
• Supervise, train, and mentor engagement staff.

Withum's Tax Services Group is made up of a brilliant team of tax specialists that work to ensure tax reporting obligations are met in an accurate and timely manner and minimize or defer the payment of taxes. Their comprehensive understanding of international, US federal, state, and local regulations, including our affiliation with HLB International, allows them to help develop economical tax strategies anywhere. Their services include Business, Individual, State & Local tax, R&D Tax Credit, as well as International and Private Client services.

As a Tax Senior based out of our Lincolnshire, IL; East Brunswick, NJ; Princeton, NJ; Red Bank, NJ; or Whippany, NJ office, you will work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well‑known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of tax engagements, supervise/mentor staff, and build/maintain relationships with clients.

How You’ll Spend Your Time

• Preparing complex individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns
• Reviewing mid‑level complexity individual, trust, partnership and corporate tax returns prepared by tax staff for accuracy
• Researching and drafting memoranda involving complex tax matters
• Identifying tax planning opportunities
• Handling and resolving tax controversies
• Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines
• Providing supervision, training and support to the engagement staff and promoting open communication to the engagement partner and manager

• Master's of Science in Taxation is preferred but not required
• 3–5 years of prior experience working in the tax department of a public accounting firm

• Excellent analytical, organizational, project management skills, and strong attention to detail
• Ability to travel as needed

Compensation and Benefits

Chicago — $70,000 – $115,000

New Jersey — $80,000 – $105,000
