About Brookside Advisors

Brookside Advisors is an established, locally owned CPA firm in Boulder, Colorado, providing tax preparation, planning, and advisory services to individuals, businesses, trusts, and estates. We believe great client service goes beyond preparing accurate tax returns. Our philosophy is rooted in servant leadership, building lasting relationships, and providing thoughtful, personalized advice tailored to each client's unique circumstances. We're a small, collaborative team with a great client base, and we take pride in the quality of our work and the relationships we've built over the years. We're looking for someone who shares those values and wants to grow with us.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a Tax Senior or experienced Tax Associate with approximately 2-4 years of public accounting experience. This is a great opportunity for someone who is already functioning as a senior or a strong associate who's ready to take the next step in their career. You'll work on a variety of tax engagements, gain exposure to interesting planning and advisory matters, and have opportunities to interact directly with clients. As a small firm, we offer the opportunity to work closely with experienced CPAs, participate in client discussions, and develop the skills needed to become a well-rounded tax professional and trusted advisor. We don't expect you to know everything on day one. We're looking for someone with a solid technical foundation, a positive attitude, and a genuine desire to learn and grow.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and estates.
  • Assist with tax planning, projections, and research.
  • Organize and review client tax documents, identify missing information, and follow up with clients to ensure accurate and complete returns.
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather information, answer questions, and help resolve tax matters.
  • Work collaboratively with senior team members to identify tax planning opportunities and provide personalized client service.
  • Manage assigned engagements, prioritize deadlines, and communicate proactively regarding project status.
  • Review financial information and identify potential tax issues or opportunities.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
Qualifications
Required:
  • At least 2 years of public accounting tax experience
  • Experience preparing individual and business income tax returns.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and collaborative approach.
  • Willingness to take ownership of assigned work while remaining open to feedback and guidance.
Preferred:
  • CPA license, CPA candidate, or EA designation.
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS, GoSystem Tax RS, or SurePrep.
  • Experience preparing partnership, S corporation, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Interest in developing tax planning, advisory, and client relationship skills.
  • Comfort learning new technology and adapting to evolving processes.

We believe in taking care of our team and providing a supportive environment where employees can build rewarding careers. Our compensation and benefits include:

  • Competitive salary: $80,000-$100,000 annually, depending on experience.
  • Performance-based bonuses.
  • Generous paid vacation: Starting at 20 days annually, with additional vacation earned based on years of service.
  • Paid holidays: Including the day after the April tax deadline.
  • Health insurance: Employer-paid premiums up to $750 per month for employee coverage.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA): Employer contributions for eligible employees.
  • 401(k) retirement plan: Employer matching contributions of up to 4%.
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave benefits.
  • Professional development: Support for continuing education and professional growth.
Work Location & Flexibility

We value in-person collaboration and prefer candidates who can work in our Boulder office, particularly on Mondays and Wednesdays when our team is together. However, we also offer hybrid and fully remote arrangements depending on experience and qualifications. We're flexible for the right person!

Work-Life Balance

We recognize that public accounting has its busy seasons, but we also believe in maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life. During tax season, our team typically averages 55-60 hours per week. Outside of busy season, we maintain a standard 40-hour workweek. We work hard when needed, support one another, and believe that time away from work is important.

Why Brookside?

At Brookside, you won't just be another person preparing tax returns. You'll have opportunities to work with a diverse and interesting client base, participate in meaningful tax planning and advisory work, and develop client relationships with the guidance of experienced professionals. We value teamwork, accountability, curiosity, and treating people well, both our clients and one another. If you're a motivated tax professional who enjoys working with people, takes pride in your work, and wants to grow with a small, established firm, we'd love to hear from you.
