Job summary

Check is seeking a Tax Support Specialist to own end-to-end tax workflows for a portfolio of federal, state, and local agencies, handling notices, filing corrections, and ongoing compliance while communicating clearly with partners and agency contacts. This remote/hybrid role enables US-wide coverage, with collaboration across offices in New York City and San Francisco.

You will balance and reconcile tax accounts, respond to escalations, identify patterns, and drive timely resolutions,

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in payroll tax, tax operations, or notice resolution with exposure to agency communication and filing work
• Strong comfort on the phone with tax agencies and written communication with partners
• Experience with federal (IRS/SSA), state, and local agencies; ability to research unfamiliar ones

Responsibilities

• Own a defined set of federal, state, and local tax agencies end-to-end, including notice resolution and ongoing compliance
• Be the direct point of contact with agencies: phone, processes, and follow-through until issues are resolved
• Communicate with partners about notices or tax accounts, translating agency interactions into clear updates
• Balance and reconcile tax accounts across agencies, surfacing discrepancies and driving resolutions
• Manage a queue of tax issues across agencies, balancing urgency and complexity
• Recognize patterns suggesting systemic issues and escalate to the right people
