Job summary

Archer Lewis is seeking a senior tax leader to supervise and mentor the tax department in Everett, WA. You will oversee federal/state/local returns, planning, and audits, partnering with business owners and executives to deliver compliant, strategy-driven outcomes.

The role requires a CPA, a strong background in tax, and 5–7 years of progressive experience, with supervisory experience a plus. The position offers a competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Master’s degree in Taxation (MST or MTax) strongly preferred.

  • Ongoing commitment to continuing professional education and licensure maintenance.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive tax accounting experience.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role preferred.
  • Experience in a public accounting firm or large corporate tax department strongly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
  • Experience working directly with business owners, executives, or senior leadership.
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with tax software (CCH, Thomson Reuters, GoSystem) and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and lead the tax department team.
  • Mentor and manage tax staff, including performance management and training.
  • Foster a collaborative, high‑performing environment with accountability.
  • Oversee preparation and review of federal, state, local, and international tax returns.
  • Ensure compliance across entity types (C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, individuals).
  • Monitor filing deadlines and maintain quality control standards.
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies for business owners and high‑net‑worth individuals.
  • Serve as SME on complex tax matters and oversee tax research/documentation.
  • Track changes in tax legislation and communicate implications to clients/teams.
  • Manage federal and state tax audits and guide settlements/appeals.
  • Oversee ASC 740 income tax provisions and deferred taxes.

What You’ll Do
  • Supervise, mentor, and lead the tax department team, including senior and staff accountants
  • Mentor, and manage the tax department, including performance management, delegation, training, and staff development
  • Foster a collaborative, high‑performing environment that emphasizes accountability, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Oversee the accurate and timely preparation and review of federal, state, local, and, where applicable, international tax returns
  • Ensure compliance across entity types including C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and individuals
  • Monitor filing deadlines, review returns and workpapers, and maintain strong quality control standards
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies for business owners and high-net‑worth individuals, including entity structuring, transactions, and projections
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on complex tax matters and oversee technical tax research and documentation
  • Track changes in tax legislation and communicate implications to clients and internal teams
  • Manage federal and state tax audits, acting as the primary liaison with taxing authorities and guiding clients through resolution and appeals
  • Oversee income tax provisions under ASC 740, including deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, and audit coordination
  • Identify and implement process improvements and leverage tax technology to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and data management
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Active CPA license required
  • Master’s degree in Taxation (MST or MTax) strongly preferred
  • Embraces AI and emerging technologies to enhance efficiency, innovation, and client service.
  • Ongoing commitment to continuing professional education and maintenance of active licensure required
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive tax accounting experience
