Job summary

Career Legal is seeking an experienced Tax Manager or Tax Reviewer to join our public accounting team in New Jersey. The role focuses on complex client engagements, tax planning and advisory services, and reviewing returns prepared by staff and senior accountants.

You will collaborate with Partners and senior professionals, manage budgets and deadlines, and develop long-term client relationships while staying current with tax law changes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of public accounting tax experience.
• Strong experience reviewing complex tax returns.
• Experience with individuals, businesses, partnerships, corporations, trusts, or other closely held entities.
• Strong tax research and analytical skills.
• Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior professionals preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines.
• Strong client service and relationship management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, professional environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage tax engagements from planning through completion.
• Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns.
• Provide tax research, planning, and advisory services to clients.
• Review workpapers, tax returns, financial statements, and other client deliverables.
• Manage engagement budgets, deadlines, and workflow.
• Supervise, review, and mentor Associates and Senior Associates.
• Communicate directly with clients to understand their tax needs and provide practical solutions.
• Identify tax planning opportunities and potential issues affecting clients.
• Work closely with Partners and other professionals on complex client matters.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
• Assist with business development and identifying additional opportunities to support clients.
• Stay current with changes in tax legislation, regulations, and industry developments.
