Job summary

Cohen & Co is seeking an experienced tax professional to join our Family Office Tax team as a Manager, delivering personalized, high-touch service to high net worth individuals and families with complex tax needs.

You will apply technical expertise to develop thoughtful tax strategies, oversee engagements from planning through compliance, and mentor junior staff while collaborating across the firm to ensure high-quality client service.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of tax experience focusing on high net worth individuals.
  • Experience managing and reviewing complex returns; family office exposure a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; ability to explain tax concepts clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review individual income tax returns (Form 1040) for high net worth clients.
  • Review trusts (1041), estates (706) and gifts (709), partnerships (1065) for wealth planning.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities related to income, investments, wealth preservation and transfer.
  • Serve as a technical resource on complex individual and family office tax issues; coordinate across entities.
  • Lead and mentor junior staff; provide coaching and feedback.

What You'll Do

Are you an experienced tax professional with a passion for exceptional client service and sophisticated tax planning? As a

  • Manage and review individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including complex, multi-state filings for high net worth individuals and families.
  • Review and manage trust (Form 1041), estate (706) and gift (709), partnership (1065), and related entity filings as they relate to individual and wealth planning needs.
  • Identify and implement tax planning opportunities related to income, equity compensation, investments, wealth preservation, and wealth transfer.
  • Serve as a technical resource on complex individual and family office tax issues, including foreign reporting, international tax compliance, multi-state taxation and coordination across investment partnerships, management companies, and related entities.
  • Stay current on tax law changes, regulatory updates, and industry best practices to ensure accurate and strategic client advice.

Tax Strategy & Compliance
  • Manage and review individual income tax returns (Form 1040), including complex, multi-state filings for high net worth individuals and families.
  • Review and manage trust (Form 1041), estate (706) and gift (709), partnership (1065), and related entity filings as they relate to individual and wealth planning needs.
  • Identify and implement tax planning opportunities related to income, equity compensation, investments, wealth preservation, and wealth transfer.

Client Experience
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for high net worth and family office clients, delivering proactive, strategic, and client-friendly tax guidance.
  • Advise clients on complex individual and family tax matters and planning considerations that support long-term financial goals.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships grounded in trust, responsiveness, and high-quality service.
  • Partner with internal teams — including family office accounting — to deliver a seamless, integrated client experience with consistent communication and follow-through.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Review work prepared by senior and staff-level professionals, providing coaching and guidance on complex individual and family office tax issues.
  • Mentor and develop team members through ongoing feedback, technical training and on-the-job support.
  • Promote a collaborative, inclusive team environment that values diverse perspectives and professional growth.
  • Support efficient engagement execution while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Demonstrate forward-thinking, innovation, and a commitment to delivering exceptional work product.
Qualifications
Who You Are
  • CPA license or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 5+ years of tax experience with a strong focus on high net worth individual taxation, preferably within public accounting, a family office, or a related professional services environment.
  • Experience managing and reviewing complex individual tax returns; exposure to trusts, investment partnerships, and family office structures is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support the development of junior professionals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly and effectively to clients.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe, and familiarity with tax preparation and research software.

Estimated Base Range: $80,000-$150,000

  • Base compensation offered to candidates are determined based on factors such as candidate's relevant skillset, experience, licensure, and certifications, as well as job responsibilities, geography, market considerations, and organizational needs.
