The ideal candidate has 5+ years of tax experience, CPA or equivalent, and experience with blockchain/crypto clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics is required; Master’s preferred.
  • Five or more years of relevant tax experience; supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting blockchain and cryptocurrency clients is preferred.
  • CPA, Attorney admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction, or IRS Enrolled Agent (or equivalent) required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, tax research databases, and tax compliance process software is preferred.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; strong analytical, research, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Capability to delegate work, manage a team of tax professionals, and maintain client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare required filings (tax returns) ensuring client compliance with authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Collaborate with Principals, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion and follow-up on open items.
  • Deliver high-quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
  • Lead complex engagements with a team of tax professionals and manage billing, collections, and budgets.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, documenting work and conclusions in the client tax file.
  • Identify when research is needed and frame issues concisely for analysis and reporting.

Job Summary

The Digital Assets Tax Manager assists in providing tax compliance and consulting services to clients across the blockchain ecosystem, including lab companies launching protocols, NFT creators, stablecoin projects, mining and staking infrastructure companies, exchanges, fintech firms, and corporations engaging with crypto and blockchain solutions. The role involves applying tax knowledge to identify potential tax issues, communicating risks and policy changes, and providing written tax advice. Additionally, it supports marketing, networking, and business development within the digital asset specialization.

Responsibilities
  • Tax Compliance
    • Prepare required filings (tax returns) ensuring clients comply with all authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
    • Collect and verify all data needed for filing, identify missing items, and communicate them to clients.
    • Use firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
    • Collaborate with Principals, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion and follow‑up on open items.
    • Deliver high‑quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
    • Lead complex engagements with a team of tax professionals and manage billing, collections, and project budgets.
    • Build and maintain client relationships, ensuring documentation of work and conclusions in the client tax file.
  • Research
    • Identify when research is required and frame issues concisely for analysis and reporting.
    • Apply firm and professional standards for preparation of work papers and tax returns.
    • Engage firm specialists as appropriate.
  • Tax Consulting
    • Assist in identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient tax strategies.
    • Lead clients on legal entity structuring, token genesis events, deal analysis, revenue recognition, sourcing, and implementation of tax objectives.
    • Prepare and lead client meetings on advisory and compliance projects related to tax planning opportunities.
  • Tax Specialization
    • Develop an in‑depth understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation (e.g., compliance, provision, corporate, partnership, state and local, international, structuring, mergers and acquisitions).
    • Organize and conduct effective internal CPE training sessions in the area of specialization.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Supervise Associates and Senior Associates on all projects.
    • Review work prepared by junior staff and provide feedback.
    • Train staff on current software tools and provide performance feedback.
    • Act as a career advisor and manage workload scheduling.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required). Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience; prior supervisory experience required.
  • Experience supporting blockchain and cryptocurrency clients (lab companies, NFT creators, stablecoins, mining and staking infrastructure, exchanges, fintech) preferred.

Salary
  • California: $112,000 - $165,000
  • Massachusetts: $115,000 - $140,000
  • Virginia: $100,000 - $140,000
