Job summary

Elliott Davis seeks a Tax Manager to join the Closely Held Business (CHB) Practice, focusing on construction clients. You will oversee the tax preparation, technical review, and advisory services for complex closely held businesses, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

You will lead a tax team, delegate assignments, train staff, and drive client relationship growth while supporting the firm's strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Law; Master’s degree in Tax/LLM in Tax preferred.
  • 5+ years of public accounting firm experience with construction and closely held businesses, managing multiple projects.
  • EA license or CPA certification required; strong project/team management and networking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage tax engagements for closely held construction clients.
  • Lead and supervise tax team; delegate assignments and review work.
  • Advise on tax issues, conduct research, and propose solutions for complex client matters.
  • Monitor billing, collections, and engagement progress; communicate status to clients.
  • Collaborate across the firm to grow CHB practice and cross-sell services.
  • Mentor and develop team members; build a bench of ready-now leaders.

We are looking for a Tax Manager to join our Closely Held Business (CHB) Practice group, focusing on Construction. This candidate will oversee the tax preparation and technical review process, as well as other tax consulting matters, for complex closely held businesses in the construction industry ensuring compliance with state and federal tax regulations. Tasks will include leading the tax team, advising, researching and identifying tax issues, and recommending solutions to complex customer issues. In addition, the Tax Manager will delegate and manage tax assignments and perform administrative duties. The Tax Manager is responsible for training, supporting, supervising, motivating, and reviewing the work of the tax team.

Responsibilities
  • Developing and sustaining excellent customer relationships
  • Being anticipatory and consulting on various tax matters
  • Actively communicating progress of engagements, problems, and resolutions to customers
  • Monitoring economic performance of engagements, including billing and collections
  • Collaborating cross-functionally within the firm to grow existing business and offer a variety of business solutions to customers and prospects
  • Developing and growing a business network with colleagues, referral relationships, potential customers, and external organizations to attract new business
  • Continuously expanding technical knowledge and application, as well as overall professional development
  • Holding yourself and others accountable for business development goals
  • Recruiting, developing, and motivating team members, creating pools of ready-now leaders
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Law; Master’s degree in Tax/LLM in Tax, preferred
  • 5+ years of recent public accounting firm experience working with construction and closely held businesses, including managing multiple projects and customer engagements
  • EA License, or CPA certification required
  • Project/team management skills
  • Excellent communication and networking acumen
  • Ability to manage and grow strong customer relationships
  • Strong experience with corporate tax accounting
  • Experience with tax software and technology
  • Ability to multitask along with demonstration of commitment to continuous learning
