Job summary

Smith and Howard seeks a Tax Manager in the Chattanooga Office to understand client businesses, manage tax compliance and projections, and communicate insights. You will supervise junior staff and support partners, ensuring high-quality service and timely delivery on engagements.

Ideal candidates bring 7–12 years of public accounting experience, CPA license, GAAP knowledge, and strong communication skills to drive client success and firm growth in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance or other relevant degree program.
• CPA license required.
• Seven to twelve years of public accounting experience, preferred.
• Minimum two years supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting procedures.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with clients to understand their businesses and how we can help them be successful.
• Supervise junior tax staff and support the partners.
• Assist staff in handling routine questions and audits from federal or state agencies.
• Provide clients with timely top-quality service by instilling a service commitment and supervising engagements.
• Advise clients on potential tax implications of business decisions and recommend alternatives.
• Review tax returns and written tax advice; supervise preparation of workpapers.
• Participate in billing discussions and lead billing activities for clients.
