Job summary

NextWave Resources is seeking a Tax Manager to own the U.S. tax compliance portfolio, including federal and state corporate income tax, partnership tax, and sales/use tax across multiple jurisdictions.

You will coordinate with external advisors, supervise staff, and support audits while driving process improvements. The role requires strong technical tax knowledge, project management, and the ability to interact with senior management, offering hybrid flexibility after an initial on-site

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or multinational tax department.
  • Strong experience with corporate federal and state income tax compliance.
  • Experience with partnership taxation and partnership return preparation/review.
  • Experience with sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience supervising external advisors, tax staff, or compliance processes.
  • Experience with tax research tools and tax compliance software (OneSource, CorpTax, Vertex, Avalara, or similar preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns.
  • Oversee preparation and review of partnership tax returns, Schedules K-1, and related filings.
  • Oversee sales and use tax compliance, including return preparation, review, remittance, and nexus analysis.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and service providers to ensure complete and accurate tax filings.
  • Review tax workpapers, supporting documentation, and tax calculations.
  • Monitor tax filing deadlines and maintain an effective tax compliance calendar.
  • Support federal, state, and local tax audits and information requests.
  • Research and analyze tax law changes and communicate impact to management.
  • Assist with tax accounting, including provision support and reconciliations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation in tax.
  • Partner with accounting, finance, legal, treasury, and operations on tax matters.
  • Assist with special projects and strategic transactions as assigned.

Reports to: VP of Tax

Position Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for managing the Company's U.S. tax compliance activities, including federal and state corporate income tax returns, partnership tax returns, sales and use tax compliance, and other miscellaneous filings. This role will oversee the timely and accurate preparation, review, and filing of tax returns, coordinate with external advisors, support tax audits, and provide tax guidance to internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge, excellent project management skills, and experience supervising tax compliance processes across multiple jurisdictions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns.
  • Manage the preparation and review of partnership tax returns, Schedules K-1, and related filings.
  • Oversee U.S. sales and use tax compliance, including return preparation, review, remittance, and nexus analysis.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and service providers to ensure complete and accurate tax filings.
  • Review tax workpapers, supporting documentation, and tax calculations prepared by internal staff or external advisors.
  • Monitor tax filing deadlines and maintain an effective tax compliance calendar.
  • Support federal, state, and local tax audits, examinations, and information requests.
  • Research and analyze tax law changes and communicate the impact to management and relevant business functions.
  • Assist with tax accounting, including provision support and related tax reconciliations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and enhanced internal controls within the tax function.
  • Partner with accounting, finance, legal, treasury, and operational personnel on tax-related matters.
  • Assist with special projects, tax planning initiatives, and strategic business transactions as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Master's degree in Taxation preferred.
  • CPA license preferred.
Experience
  • 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or a multinational tax department.
  • Strong experience with corporate federal and state income tax compliance.
  • Strong experience with partnership taxation and partnership return preparation/review.
  • Strong experience with sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of federal and state corporate taxation.
  • Strong understanding of partnership taxation and pass‑through entities.
  • Working knowledge of sales and use tax regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management and external advisors.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Preferred Attributes
  • Public accounting background (Big Four or large regional firm).
  • Experience managing compliance for multi-state operations.
  • Experience supporting tax audits and responding to taxing authorities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with an interest in leveraging technology and automation to improve compliance processes.
ROLE FOCUS
