Job summary

Royal Search Group is seeking a Tax Manager for a growing financial services firm in the Triangle. This role is a reviewer-focused position working with advisory clients, not a CPA firm.

You will manage engagements, conduct tax research, and develop tax planning strategies while mentoring staff and serving as the primary client contact. Strong knowledge of partnership taxation and leadership experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• 5+ years of tax experience, ideally within public accounting.
• Proven expertise of partnership taxation.
• Prior team leadership or supervisory experience.
• Proficiency with tax software (UltraTax, CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, or similar).

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Conduct tax research on complex issues and provide clear, actionable guidance.
• Identify and implement tax planning strategies to minimize client tax liabilities and add value beyond compliance.
• Review work prepared by staff and senior accountants; provide constructive feedback and technical training.
• Serve as a primary client contact, building and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Respond to and manage IRS and state tax notices, audits, and inquiries on behalf of clients.
• Monitor changes in tax law and communicate implications to clients and internal team.
• Assist with staff scheduling, workflow management, and engagement profitability.
• Participate in business development activities, including identifying opportunities within the existing client base.
• Mentor and develop junior staff, contributing to a positive team culture.
