Job summary

Western Digital is seeking a seasoned tax professional to manage and review US federal and state tax compliance, estimated payments, and year-end extensions. You will oversee tax provisions, fixed assets, UNICAP, and R&D credit analysis while guiding the tax team and coordinating with external providers.

The role requires CPA certification with 8+ years in tax, strong US GAAP for taxes, and excellent communication and project management skills.

Qualifications

  • CPA license required; MST/MBT degree preferred but not required
  • 8+ years of combined tax experience in CPA firm and corporate tax
  • Strong knowledge of US tax laws and ASC 740
  • Experience with US GAAP for taxes and internal controls
  • Proficient in Excel; strong written and verbal communication

Responsibilities

  • Manage and review U.S. federal and state tax compliance including managing the external service provider
  • Review quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments and year-end extension requests
  • Assist with the review of US taxable income calculations for annual and quarterly domestic tax provision including review of schedule M items
  • Manage and review fixed assets, UNICAP, and R&D credit analysis
  • Provide support for tax examinations
  • Planning and research in connection with the above responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with Section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley
  • Support tax transformation initiatives to automate tax processes and data analytics
  • Keep up to date with tax legislation, SEC Regulations, and GAAP changes
  • Supervises and develops tax department staff
  • Build cross-functional relationships within and outside the tax department

Job Description
  • Manage and review U.S. federal and state tax compliance including managing the external service provider
  • Review quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments and year-end extension requests
  • Assist with the review of US taxable income calculations for annual and quarterly domestic tax provision including review of schedule M items
  • Manage and review fixed assets, UNICAP, and R&D credit analysis
  • Provide support for tax examinations
  • Planning and research in connection with the above responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of Section 404 of Sarbanes Oxley
  • Support tax transformation initiatives to automate tax processes, enhance data analytics and re-imagine how the tax function operates
  • Keep up to date with tax legislation, SEC Regulations, and GAAP changes, practice and global developments
  • Supervises and develops tax department staff
  • Build and foster strong cross-functional relationships within and outside of the tax department
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
  • CPA license required. MST or MBT (Master of Science in Taxation or Master in Business Taxation) degree preferred, but not required
  • Ideal candidate will have 8+ years of combined tax experience which includes some mix of experience in a major CPA firm and in a corporate tax department
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. tax laws and regulations and capability of application in new situations
  • Experience with ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Experience and proficiency in U.S. GAAP accounting for taxes and internal controls
  • Good knowledge of US tax principles
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Independent and self-driven with the ability to adapt and get things done in a complex and fast-based environment
  • Critical thinking with the ability to scrutinize, challenge, and propose changes to existing processes and procedures
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision, OneSource Tax Compliance, and Alteryx is a plus
  • Facilitate meetings and present to large groups
