Job summary

Whitley Penn in Texas seeks a Tax Manager to oversee all phases of client engagements within the Tax Department. You will supervise associates, coordinate planning, scheduling, and staffing, and ensure timely, accurate tax returns and projections.

You will apply extensive knowledge of tax laws and communicate complex issues clearly to clients. The role requires 5+ years in public accounting, CPA license, and strong leadership and client-service skills, with a collaborative, team-oriented

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Public Accounting experience.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master's degree preferred.
  • A professional appearance, demeanor, and positive attitude.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Internal Revenue Code and tax laws with ability to apply theory.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple engagements and projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead and work respectfully with diverse individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for all phases of engagements, including supervision of associates, managing client satisfaction and planning, scheduling and staffing.
  • Review and/or prepare 1065, 1040, 1120, and 1120S tax returns, quarterly estimates, extensions and year-end projections.
  • Review and/or prepare various types of complex tax returns; perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
  • Identify and research technical issues to assure compliance with federal, state and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that financial statements, tax returns and other deliverables are prepared in accordance with professional and firm standards.
  • Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent the client before the appropriate taxing authorities.
  • Serve clients in a consultative role with an emphasis on exceptional client service and identification of value-added services; proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve problems and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
  • Own and monitor client relationship over the entire engagement process; communicate progress of engagements, problems, and resolutions to client.

Position Details
  • Title: Tax Manager
  • Classification: Full-time; Exempt
  • Department: Tax
  • Office Expectations/Hours: Hybrid; general work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day between 8am to 5pm with overtime, as needed.
What You Will Do

What You Need To Get Here
  • 5+ years of Public Accounting experience
  • Active CPA license
