Tax Manager
We are seeking a seasoned Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for high net worth individuals, trusts and estates, pass-through entities, corporations, and nonprofit clients. The Tax Manager will manage client engagements, supervise and mentor a team of tax professionals, ensure technical quality and compliance across federal, state and international tax matters, and drive efficient use of tax technology and processes to deliver strategic tax solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee end-to-end tax compliance and reporting for individuals (Form 1040), trusts and estates (1041, 706, 709), partnerships (1065), S corporations (1120S) and C corporations (1120).
- Lead tax planning and structuring for high net worth individuals (HNW/HNWI), families, fiduciaries, real estate and construction clients, including gift and estate planning and fiduciary matters.
- Manage and perform tax return review and preparation, ensuring quality control, technical accuracy and timely delivery for all engagement types.
- Conduct complex tax research and develop defensible positions on federal, state & local (SALT) and international tax issues, including nexus & apportionment studies and BEPS/OECD treaty analysis.
- Provide tax provision (ASC 740) support, tax accounting and reporting, and coordinate with finance and audit teams on tax provision and disclosures.
- Support M&A tax work including due diligence, structuring, and post-transaction integration; advise on corporate reorganizations and entity structuring.
- Advise on indirect taxes (sales & use, VAT/GST), payroll & withholding tax matters, transfer pricing issues, R&D tax credits and incentives, and other incentive programs.
- Lead tax controversy and audit support efforts, interfacing with tax authorities and managing responses to inquiries.
- Implement and optimize tax technology and workflow: ONESOURCE, CCH, Vertex, ProSystem fx/UltraTax, CorpTax, Oracle, SAP, advanced Excel/VBA, Alteryx/Power Query and SQL integrations.
- Supervise, train and mentor tax staff; manage staffing and deliverable timelines; review work products to mitigate risk and maintain firm quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, serve as a trusted advisor, and communicate technical tax concepts clearly to clients and senior stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; Masters, JD or LLM in Taxation strongly preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required or Enrolled Agent (EA) with significant experience; additional tax credentials (LLM, JD) a plus.
- 8+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a professional services environment, including experience as a Senior Tax Manager/Tax Supervisor or equivalent.
- Deep technical expertise in individual, fiduciary, partnership, S-Corp and C-Corp taxation; hands-on experience preparing and reviewing 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1041, 709 and 706 returns.
- Proven experience with SALT, international tax (FATCA/CRS/FBAR), transfer pricing, tax provision (ASC 740), M&A tax and due diligence.
- Experience advising high net worth individuals (HNW/HNWI), family offices, real estate and construction clients on tax planning and wealth transfer strategies.
- Strong working knowledge of tax research, entity structuring, federal and state tax law and quality control/risk management practices.
- Advanced technical skills with tax software and data tools: ONESOURCE, CCH, Vertex, ProSystem fx/UltraTax, CorpTax, Oracle/SAP; advanced Excel and VBA; Alteryx/Power Query and SQL a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication and client management skills, with proven ability to supervise teams and manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
