Our client, a women-owned, modern CPA firm focused on delivering proactive, high-value advisory and accounting services that help clients make better decisions and grow with confidence, is seeking a hands-on Tax Manager who can see the entire financial picture—not only the tax return. This is an ideal opportunity for a technically strong, self-directed professional who will be equally comfortable reviewing financial statements, discussing tax strategy with an owner, coaching a team member, and making sure the details are right.
What You'll Do:
- Own client relationships with small business and entrepreneurial clients, generally ranging from approximately $10M - $20M in annual revenue and serve as a primary advisor and day-to-day contact guiding them through year-end accounting, tax planning, projections, compliance and business decisions.
- Manage the full tax cycle. Oversee tax planning, projections, estimated payments, compliance, and the preparation and review of business entity and individual income tax returns.
- Connect the books to the tax strategy. Review QuickBooks Online files, bank reconciliations, adjusting entries, account activity, and financial statements to identify issues before they reach the return.
- Provide business insight. Analyze financial results, trends, cash flow, profitability, and other operating information; help clients understand what the numbers mean and what actions to consider.
- Deliver proactive planning. Identify tax-saving opportunities, model alternatives, communicate recommendations clearly, and help clients prepare for upcoming decisions and deadlines.
- Review and develop the team. Review work prepared by staff, provide timely feedback, answer technical questions, and help colleagues grow in judgment, confidence, and client service.
- Maintain quality and accountability. Manage multiple engagements and deadlines while preserving accuracy, documentation, confidentiality, and a high standard of client care.
- Improve how the work gets done. Use technology and sound processes to make tax, accounting, and client-delivery workflows more consistent and efficient.
- Support the firm. Collaborate with partners and colleagues on special projects, client transitions, business development, and other firm priorities as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or Finance
- Active CPA license required. Candidates who have completed the exam but do not hold an active license will not meet this requirement
- Progressive public accounting experience. Typically 7–10+ years, with preference for a candidate closer to 10 years who has advanced in responsibility and client ownership.
- Broad business and owner tax experience. Demonstrated experience with privately held businesses, entrepreneurial clients, tax planning, projections, compliance, and return review.
- Financial statement fluency. Strong understanding of the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, general ledger, adjusting entries, and how accounting decisions affect tax outcomes.
- Hands-on QuickBooks Online capability. The candidate must be able to navigate QBO, evaluate the quality of the books, and work through issues with clients and staff.
- Tax technology. Experience with CCH Axcess Tax is helpful, but not required; the ability to learn systems quickly is essential.
- Review and leadership skills. Experience reviewing work, coaching staff, communicating expectations, and taking ownership of deadlines and deliverables.
- Strong client presence. The judgment and communication skills to explain complex matters clearly, ask good questions, and build credibility with business owners.
- A team-first approach. Kind, collaborative, accountable, low-ego, and willing to pitch in. Respectful behavior and positive energy are non-negotiable.
