Job description

Tax Manager About the Opportunity Alliance Resource Group is partnering with one of Idaho's top employers, a well-established, privately held organization to identify an experienced Tax Manager who will play an integral role within its corporate tax and family office functions. This position was created to provide additional support to the Director of Tax while bringing greater ownership of key tax functions in-house. The Tax Manager will be responsible for hands-on tax compliance, research, planning, and project work across a diverse portfolio of approximately 13 entities, including partnerships, S-corporations, real estate investments, operating businesses, and other pass-through structures. The role will also partner with the Family Office Controller on select projects involving privately held investments and high-net-worth individuals. While prior family office or high-net-worth tax experience is highly valued, this position will not routinely present directly to family members. Instead, the Tax Manager will work closely with the executives, finance professionals, advisors, and other stakeholders who support them.

What You’ll Do
  • Own and support federal and multi-state income tax compliance across a diverse portfolio of partnerships, S-corporations, pass-through entities, real estate investments, closely held businesses, and related entities.
  • Take ownership of partnership tax returns and related tax matters, including the analysis of complex partnership structures and transactions.
  • Support federal income tax filings and tax compliance requirements across applicable U.S. state and local jurisdictions.
  • Perform tax research as necessary, interpret applicable tax guidance, and develop well-supported recommendations and documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise related to partnership taxation, S-corporations, entity structures, flow-through taxation, and related tax planning opportunities.
  • Help transition selected tax responsibilities currently performed by outside Big Four and other external service providers back into the organization.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and service providers when specialized expertise or outsourced support is required.
  • Partner closely with the Director of Tax on tax compliance, planning, research, audits, and other strategic tax initiatives.
  • Support the Family Office Controller with ad hoc projects involving family office entities, investments, ownership structures, and high-net-worth individual matters.
  • Evaluate the tax implications of investments, transactions, entity structures, and business decisions in partnership with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Support tax audits, notices, and other regulatory matters through research, documentation, analysis, and collaboration.
  • Manage projects independently from initial research and information gathering through execution and completion.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and professional written documentation supporting tax positions, recommendations, and conclusions.
  • Communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively with finance leaders, business partners, external advisors, and non-tax stakeholders.
  • Balance multiple entities, deadlines, projects, and priorities within a collaborative finance environment.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of recent public accounting tax experience, ideally with meaningful experience serving privately held companies, partnerships, family offices, closely held businesses, or high-net-worth clients.
  • CPA strongly preferred, or another relevant professional tax certification.
  • Strong hands-on experience with partnership and pass-through entity taxation.
  • Experience preparing and/or owning tax work involving S-corporations, partnerships, federal income tax, and multi-state taxation.
  • Experience navigating complex entity structures involving multiple businesses, investments, or ownership interests.
  • High-net-worth individual, family office, real estate, asset management, or closely held business experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to research complex tax matters and translate technical guidance into practical recommendations.
  • Ability and willingness to remain hands-on with tax preparation, research, analysis, documentation, and execution.
  • Strong project-management skills with the ability to independently manage work across multiple entities and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical tax concepts professionally through email, documentation, and conversation.
  • Strong professional presence and the ability to interact effectively with senior finance leaders, external advisors, and individuals supporting privately held ownership groups.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a high-trust environment.
The Right Profile

The strongest candidate will likely be someone who enjoys the technical depth and variety found in public accounting but is ready to take greater ownership of the work within a corporate environment. This role is particularly well suited for a tax professional who has spent significant time working directly on returns, research, and complex entity structures and still enjoys being in the details. Candidates whose recent experience has primarily involved reviewing work, managing large teams, and delegating execution may find this position less aligned with what they are looking for. Success in this role will require both technical capability and a highly collaborative approach. The finance organization values a team-oriented, inclusive culture where colleagues know one another personally, support each other, and genuinely care about the people they work alongside. The Tax Manager should be someone who enjoys being part of that type of environment while also being comfortable independently owning their responsibilities.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Broader ownership: Move beyond a traditional client-service model and take direct responsibility for tax matters from research through execution.
  • Complexity and variety: Work across approximately 13 entities encompassing partnerships, S-corporations, real estate, operating businesses, investments, and family office interests.
  • Build something internally: Play an important role in bringing tax functions currently handled by outside Big Four advisors back into the organization.
  • Family office exposure: Gain experience working alongside professionals supporting high-net-worth individuals, privately held investments, and complex ownership structures.
  • Direct leadership access: Work closely with the Director of Tax, Family Office Controller, finance leadership, and external advisors.
  • Career evolution: Join as an individual contributor with the potential for the position to develop into broader leadership responsibilities as the organization grows.
  • Collaborative culture: Become part of an inclusive finance team that places a high value on teamwork, relationships, communication, and supporting one another.
Compensation & Benefits

The organization offers a competitive base salary: $125,000 - 145,000+ DOE along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • 17 days of paid time off
  • 18 paid holidays
  • Comprehensive health and medical benefits
  • Additional company-sponsored benefits and programs
