Sherwood Staffing Partners in Woodland Hills, CA, seeks a Tax Manager for a CPA firm focused on tax, reviews and compilations. You will review returns, prepare more involved filings, and work directly with clients and partners.
Base salary ranges from $130,000 to $180,000 with discretionary bonus, profit sharing, and 10% new-client commissions. A 60-hour busy season is followed by a quieter year; 401(k) is available.
Our client is a CPA firm in Woodland Hills that does tax work along with financial statement work, mostly reviews and compilations. Their client base is wide: real estate partnerships, small and mid sized businesses, service companies, online sellers, tech companies, high net worth individuals, and trust and estate clients.
Something worth knowing about this firm: they turn away more work than they take on. They would rather keep the client list manageable and do the work well than chase volume, and you can feel that in how the year is paced. Busy season runs January through April at roughly 55 hours a week. The rest of the year is relaxed, and people actually have their evenings and weekends back.
They are hiring a Tax Manager. The work is a mix of review and preparation, so this is not a pure review seat and it is not all prep either. You will review returns and financial statements, prepare the more involved returns yourself, and work directly with clients and partners.
Two things stand out. First, the pace: 60 hour busy seasons and a genuinely quiet summer and fall, with total overtime for the year usually staying under 200 hours. Second, the upside: if you have a book or you develop business over time, you get paid on it at 10%, which is unusual at a firm this size.
