Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a Senior Tax Manager in Latham, NY to lead tax engagements, mentor team members, and build strong client relationships. This hybrid role requires 5+ years in public accounting and expertise in federal/state tax compliance and planning. You will oversee budgets, review complex returns, and provide strategic tax advice to clients.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in public accounting experience.
  • Experience reviewing complex federal/state tax returns and workpapers.
  • Prior in-charge/mentoring/supervisory leadership experience.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tax engagements while coordinating staff, seniors, and engagement team.
  • Review federal/state tax returns, workpapers, reports for accuracy.
  • Provide tax planning recommendations aligned with client goals.
  • Act as trusted client contact, answering tax questions and building relationships.
  • Coach developing professionals with timely feedback and guidance.
  • Identify tax issues and opportunities to add client value.
  • Manage engagement budgets, timelines, workflow, profitability.
  • Assist with tax notices, regulatory matters, and audits.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, brokers, authorities.
  • Help develop new/existing client relationships and practice growth.

$90,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year

Location

Latham, NY. This is a hybrid opportunity with at least 3 days per week on-site. We are ideally looking for someone who lives within approximately a 45-minute commute of the Latham office.

Note

Candidates must have 5+ years of public accounting experience, including experience reviewing complex tax returns and serving in an in-charge, supervisory, mentoring, or team leadership capacity.

Job Description

  • Provide thoughtful tax planning recommendations that consider clients' broader business goals and needs.
  • Serve as a trusted client contact, answering tax questions and building strong professional relationships.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of public accounting experience required.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or a related discipline.
  • Experience reviewing complicated tax returns and tax workpapers.
  • Prior experience serving as an in-charge, mentor, supervisor, or people manager.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax compliance and tax planning.
  • Strong client communication and relationship-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements, deadlines, and priorities.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred, but not required.
