Job summary

CareerNerds, LLC is seeking a hands-on Tax Manager focused on ASC 740 provision and coordination of outsourced tax functions. You will own the provision and act as the internal quarterback with external advisors (RSM), sales tax providers (Avalara), and internal stakeholders.

This role sits at the center of tax operations, driving accuracy, timelines, and continuous improvement while supporting strategic tax planning and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Experience leading ASC 740 income tax provision.
• Experience with U.S. federal and state tax compliance for C-Corps.
• Familiarity with outsourced tax environments (Big 4 / regional firms).
• Working knowledge of Avalara or similar sales tax systems.
• Proven ability to manage audits and interact with tax authorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual ASC 740 tax provision including current and deferred calculations, journal entries, and reconciliations.
• Serve as primary liaison with external tax advisors and coordinate with internal stakeholders.
• Oversee sales/use tax compliance processes and filings.
• Review federal/state income tax returns and workpapers; manage timelines and deliverables.
• Identify tax savings opportunities and assist with planning strategies; track regulatory changes.

We are partnering with a growing organization to identify a hands-on Tax Manager with a strong focus on ASC 740 income tax provision and coordination of outsourced tax functions.

This role sits at the center of tax operations—owning the provision while acting as the internal quarterback across external advisors (RSM), sales tax providers (Avalara), and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Income Tax Provision

• Prepare annual ASC 740 tax provision
  • Current & deferred calculations
  • Journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Supporting schedules and documentation
• Performprovision-to-return true-upsand variance analysis
• Preparequarterly estimated tax calculations

Federal & State Compliance

• Serve as theprimary liaison with external tax advisors
• Reviewfederal and state income tax returns and workpapers
• Managetimelines, deliverables, and open items
• Support audits and respond to tax authority inquiries

Sales & Use Tax Oversight

• Oversee outsourcedsales/use tax compliance processes
• Review filings, exception reports, and reconciliations
• Partner cross-functionally to addresstax exposure and compliance issues

Tax Operations & Strategy

• Managemulti-jurisdictional tax complianceacross federal, state, and local levels
• Review financial statements to ensureaccurate tax reporting
• Identifytax savings opportunities and planning strategies
• Support senior leadership withtax implications of business decisions
• Develop and maintain systems totrack regulatory changes
• Assist withcash flow forecasting related to tax obligations

Process Improvement & Coordination

• Optimize tax workflows to improveefficiency and turnaround time
• Coordinate across internal teams and third-party providers
• Ensure all tax processes run smoothly and deadlines are consistently met

Ideal Background

• ASC 740 income tax provision experience
• Experience inC-Corp federal and state tax compliance
• Familiarity withoutsourced tax environments (Big 4 / regional firms)
• Working knowledge ofAvalara or similar sales tax systems
• Proven ability tomanage audits, resolve tax issues, and work with tax authorities
