Distinct, a Fort Wayne CPA firm, is seeking an experienced Tax Manager/Senior Manager to oversee work, mentor junior staff, manage client relationships, and stay close to the technical side.
The firm emphasizes mentorship, local decision making, and clear progression through Manager, Senior Manager and potentially Partner, with a culture of down-to-earth collaboration in the Midwest. This role offers a path to leadership within a local firm.
What would you do with an extra Friday every week outside of busy season?
Once your core hours are complete here, you're done. Work 4 longer days? that's you heading into a 3 day weekend.
And importantly, the flexibility doesn't come at the expense of progression.
Several of the Partners have built their careers here themselves. They've gone from doing the work, to reviewing it, managing clients and people, and eventually becoming part of the Partner group.
That route is there if you want it, but it doesn't have to be the goal.
Whether you're a Tax Manager ready for more responsibility, or a Senior Manager looking for somewhere you can keep developing long term, there's room to shape what progression looks like for you.
This is an independent Fort Wayne CPA firm of around 50 people. Big enough to give you good clients and progression, but small enough that people know each other and decisions are still made locally.
The role itself is experienced and review focused. You'll oversee work, support junior staff, manage client relationships and stay close to the technical side.
The client base is broad, including closely held businesses, construction, manufacturing, partnerships, S Corps and individual returns. A lot of the clients are owner managed and multi generational businesses, so you'll actually get to know the people behind the numbers rather than just their returns.
There's a big emphasis on developing people too. They invest heavily in interns and junior staff, with several returning full time after graduating. If you enjoy mentoring people, you'll have the opportunity to genuinely do that here.
The culture is probably one of the biggest reasons I like recruiting for this firm.
It's very Midwest. Down to earth people, not much ego, collaborative teams and Partners who are still involved. They don't see much turnover either, which probably tells you more than any culture statement could.
If you want the flexibility to have more of your life back outside busy season, but you're still ambitious about where your career goes, this gives you both.
The CPA firms we partner with want diverse, interesting people, not corporate clones stamped from the same tedious mould.
Don't overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that's where it gets rather exciting.
