Independent CPA Firm is hiring in Tax from Associate through Senior Manager level. The role offers a broad tax practice with autonomous workload management and a supportive mentoring environment.
You'll work with privately owned and entrepreneurial businesses across manufacturing and construction, and with high net worth individuals and nonprofits. There is a clear path to more responsibility over time and a flexible hybrid schedule.
Public accounting firms tend to talk about growth as though more is always better.
More clients. More revenue.
But there comes a point where growth stops being particularly impressive if the people creating it are paying for it with their evenings.
This firm has actually turned work away before because they didn't want to overload the team they already had.
I think that tells you quite a lot.
They're an independent CPA firm of around 50 professionals, and they're hiring within Tax from Associate through to Senior Manager level.
So this isn't really an advert for someone who desperately needs to leave their current firm.
It's probably more interesting if you're actually quite comfortable where you are, but you'd move for somewhere that gave you a bit more trust, broader experience and a working week that doesn't gradually take over your life.
Busy season generally sits around 50 to 60 hours, and outside of that there's hybrid working with plenty of flexibility. You're trusted to manage your workload without somebody constantly checking when you arrived or whether your Teams light has mysteriously disappeared at 4:47pm.
The Tax work is broad too.
You'll work with privately owned and entrepreneurial businesses across areas including manufacturing and construction, alongside high net worth individuals. There are partnerships, corporations and nonprofit clients in the mix too.
Most of the team remain generalists, so you don't have to decide that one tiny section of the tax code is now your entire personality.
If you have developed a specialist area that you enjoy, though, they'll make use of it.
There's a good amount of autonomy as you become more experienced, but without the slightly less appealing version of autonomy where somebody gives you a difficult client and wishes you luck.
The Partners are accessible and there's proper mentoring in place. They invest in CPE and, if you want to keep progressing, there's a clear route to take on more responsibility over time.
People tend to stay here for a long time.
And perhaps the reason is fairly simple. The firm has managed to grow without deciding that every extra dollar of revenue is worth having.
