Job summary

Syntax Talent Solutions is seeking a hands-on Tax Manager to lead complex engagements from planning through completion in a hybrid work setting. You will oversee junior staff, provide coaching, and drive process improvements.

You'll review returns, advise leadership, and ensure accurate information flow with internal teams while staying ahead of changing tax laws. CPA is required; Masters preferred.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax.
  • Experience managing, reviewing, and directing the work of junior tax staff.
  • Strong technical tax knowledge for complex returns and issues.
  • Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with tax planning and advisory projects beyond compliance.
  • Familiarity with tax preparation and research software.

About the Role

As Tax Manager, you will oversee complex tax engagements from planning through completion, ensuring high-quality, timely deliverables. You will manage and review the work of junior staff, providing technical guidance and coaching to support their development. Your insights will drive process improvements across the tax function, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and client service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple tax engagements, overseeing planning, execution, and completion within agreed timelines.
  • Review complex tax returns and related workpapers prepared by junior staff, providing clear, constructive feedback.
  • Direct and mentor junior team members, delegating work effectively and supporting their technical and professional growth.
  • Research and resolve complex tax issues, communicating findings and recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline tax processes, implement improvements, and standardise best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate information flow and alignment on tax-related matters.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on current and future engagements.
Key Requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate tax environment.
  • Proven experience managing, reviewing, and directing the work of junior tax staff.
  • Strong technical tax knowledge with the ability to handle complex returns and issues independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, take ownership of engagements, and meet deadlines.
  • Track record of proactively identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and clarify requirements.
  • Experience in both corporate and individual tax compliance.
  • Exposure to tax planning and advisory projects in addition to compliance.
  • Familiarity with leading tax preparation and research software.
  • Prior experience in a hybrid or flexible work environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Master's degree in Taxation or related discipline preferred.
