What you'll do
- Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity
- Assume full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate to tax preparers as needed
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge and advanced technical skills necessary for advising clients
- Oversee client service tasks, ensuring assignments are completed within budgeted time
- Participate actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts, supporting the Auditing and Accounting Department with larger clients
- Serve as a resource for tax preparers, specialists, and A&A staff on tax issues and questions
- Handle tax preparation responsibilities for more complex business returns
- Assume client service responsibility for assigned clients or those delegated by a Partner
- Communicate important tax developments to appropriate firm personnel
- Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before taxing authorities
- Ensure smooth flow of tax returns through the preparation system for accurate and timely delivery
- Adhere to accurate and timely billing and collection processes
- Participate in firm practice development through referral sources, community, and industry activities
- Develop, coach, and train Supervising Seniors, Seniors, Semi-seniors, and Staff accountants
- Maintain familiarity with the qualifications of all tax staff to guide their training needs
- Participate in reviews and evaluations of the Tax Department
Required qualifications
- Five to seven years of experience in public accounting, with proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research
- At least one (1) year of experience supervising and directing the work of tax preparers
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
- Current and valid certified public accountant’s license required
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s degree in taxation preferred
