Job summary

BerryDunn is seeking a part-time intern for Spring 2027 in Portland, ME, to assist with tax preparation and client data management. You will gain hands-on training in trial balance, depreciation calculations, and tax returns under supervision, while building professional relationships and contributing to projects.

The role requires completion of a Federal Income Tax course, availability for at least 24 hours weekly, and legal authorization to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• Completed Federal Income Tax course.
• Available a minimum of 24 hours per week (preferably 3 full days per week).
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
• Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
• Team player with a positive – 'can do' approach.
• Strong communication skills.
• A general and growing knowledge of firm products and services in the practice area, and a general knowledge of products and services in other practice areas.
• A general understanding of market trends including opportunities, global and local business initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of trial balance from client information: posting adjusting entries, using software to calculate depreciation, and maintaining ongoing client data.
• Preparation of 1040, 1041, 1120, 1120S and 1065 tax returns to be reviewed by senior staff members.
• Assist with special projects
• Work as an effective team member to complete project components and assignment tasks
• Build working relationships at peer client level
• Seek to gain knowledge of client businesses
• Effectively document work
• Identify task issues as well as task progress in a timely and organized manner
• Actively pursue self-development opportunities in line with the competency model
