Responsibilities

Job description

ENFIN is a financial services company that provides financing for residential solar PV customers, including battery storage systems. ENFIN is seeking a tax professional to lead tax reporting, compliance and strategy for the Company.

We are seeking a professional with thorough experience with renewable energy projects and finance, strongly preferring candidates with exposure to residential solar projects.

Desired areas of experience would include solar project construction, third party ownership (“TPO”) of assets, including solar asset leases and power purchase agreements (“PPA’s”), and ITC tax equity transactions, including joint ventures and equity method accounting.

Experience with banking and financial services accounting issues (e.g., ABS structured sales, available for sale securities, gain on sale, unrealized revenue, hedge accounting) would also be beneficial.

In this role you will also need a high level of attention to detail and strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Communicating with internal and external stakeholders is key, in addition to assisting with activities across multiple departments and functions to help drive our residential renewable finance business.

ENFIN’s operations are growing rapidly, we expect to increase transaction volume and enter new financing transactions, including joint ventures and tax equity funds. New tasks, procedures, and accounting policies will need to be planned and executed.

In this role you will need to address issues with imperfect information and demonstrate collaborative problem-solving skills and execute team-wide initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead both the direct and indirect tax functions at EnFin, including tax assessment, billing, collection, and filing across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
  • Manage relationships with external tax compliance partners and software to ensure timely filing of all sales and property tax returns.
  • Proactively monitor and propose alternatives to reduce EnFin tax exposure and administrative costs and provide advice on tax structures to support business decisions.
  • Establish processes for key deliverables and lead continuous improvement activities to achieve effective, efficient execution.
  • Oversee and ensure timely and complete monthly close process, assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, as well as assist with the preparation of the annual financial statements.
  • Serve as reviewer on process creation and enhancement, including SOX and internal control matters, both internally and externally.
  • Manage the deferred tax accounting treatment, and financial reporting for tax under US GAAP and create journal entries for the advanced topics with which you have experience.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, Capital Markets, Structured Finance, Financial Planning and Analysis) to build an understanding of the key processes within the organization’s operations.
  • Drive process change, and efficiencies by optimizing processes, identifying opportunities for automation, and building for scale - ensuring all solutions are compliant with tax law, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company policies
  • Willing and able to embrace the use of artificial intelligence in driving process efficiencies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related area.
  • 10+ years progressive tax, tax accounting, and finance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and databases.
  • Ability to execute in a dynamic, fast-paced, and demanding environment.
  • Ability to influence across the company and interact at all levels.
  • Knowledge of accounting for residential solar assets, including construction, leases, and PPA agreements.
  • Knowledge of federal income tax, state income tax, state and local taxes, and investment tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.
  • Experience with partnership accounting including tax equity structures
  • Experience with internal controls and process improvement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Experience with revenue recognition policies and technical accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of tax law and tax accounting under US GAAP.
  • Knowledge of financial systems, analysis methodologies and technical standards applicable to corporate accounting and finance.
  • Strong excel, data sorting, and manipulation skills required including mastery of pivot tables, lookups, and power query.

COMPENSATION:

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, the anticipated annual base salary for this position is:

  • Zone 1 (Bay Area, NYC): $208,100 – $234,100
  • Zone 2 (CA, NJ, NY): $190,700 – $214,600
  • Zone 3 (All others): $173,400 – $195,100

The applicable salary range is based on the employee’s primary work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, education, skills, internal equity, and other business-related factors.
