We're hiring a Tax Director – Future Practice Leader at Sherwood Tax (Remote Position| HQ in Portland, OR)!

Our mission is to support growth-minded business owners with smart, strategic tax planning while delivering

an elevated client experience through automation and human-first service.

We're not your grandfather’s tax firm—we're tech-forward, people-centered, and deeply invested in helping

SMBs and their owners make better financial decisions all year round.

This is a key leadership hire. The Tax Director will immediately step into a high-impact role and

spend the first year transitioning client relationships from the founding partners and building

trust with the team. With the full support of a seasoned board of directors and the operational

foundation already in place, this person will be developed into the Practice Director—the

strategic and cultural leader of the tax practice. We are committed to mentorship, autonomy, and

offering a true path to ownership for the right candidate.

What You’ll Do:

• Be a champion of joy in tax showering our clients with high-value interactions
• Oversee and manage all aspects of client tax engagements, including strategy, compliance, and advisory
• Lead a high-performing, distributed tax team serving SMB clients across various industries
• Be a strategic thought partner to clients—offering proactive tax planning and helping drive long-term value
• Identify opportunities for workflow automation and tech implementation to improve client experience and internal efficiency
• Collaborate closely with our strategic partners to deliver a seamless client experience
• Set goals and lead initiatives that support growth, innovation, and a high-performing firm culture

What We’re Looking For:

• CPA with at least 10 years of experience in public accounting or tax leadership roles
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex client relationships, and grow a practice
• Strong knowledge of U.S. tax law with an emphasis on SMBs and business owners
• Entrepreneurial mindset and interest in growing into a Practice Director role within a year
• A tech-forward thinker who is excited to leverage tools to modernize the tax function
• Comfortable working in a remote environment and managing a distributed team
