Tax Director — Remote If You're in California!

$180K–$280K Base + Bonus (10%–25%) + Equity

Overview

They’re hiring a Tax Director for one of the fastest-growing CPA and advisory firms in the country, and it’s one of the more interesting seats in the California market right now.

Most Tax Directors at regional firms hit the same wall: you become the most technical person in the building. Every hard question lands on your desk, including the ones outside your wheelhouse, and there’s nobody above you to escalate to. You stop learning and start absorbing risk.

This firm is the opposite of that. It has a national footprint, a deep bench, and specialists across every discipline, so when a client throws you something genuinely complex, there’s a real expert to call. You still own your book and your clients. You just stop being the last line of defense on everything.

Responsibilities:

• Leading tax compliance and advisory for a diverse commercial client base
• Reviewing and signing off on returns, and getting them out the door
• Managing client relationships directly, with real ownership and visibility
• Mentoring and developing managers and seniors
• Working across industries: real estate, manufacturing, technology, professional services, hospitality, healthcare and senior living

What They’re Looking For:

• 8 to 10+ years of tax experience in public accounting
• This is a generalist position, so they’re open on industry and experience
• Strong technical review skills and comfort owning client relationships
• A track record of staying somewhere and building something

Schedule:

• Remote if based in California
• Hybrid capability as well: 2–3 days in office
