What role you will play in our team

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tax Counsel ready to take on complex challenges within a Fortune 50 multinational corporation. You will gain a wide variety of experience and manage a multi-jurisdiction portfolio of state and local tax matters. Keys to success include collaboration and effective communication with tax department colleagues and management, corporate finance and business unit personnel, state tax officials and outside counsel.

This position will play a key role in helping ExxonMobil compete to win by representing the company on a wide variety of state and local tax issues. The position requires strong tax research skills, excellent verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to perform data analysis related to controversy matters. What will you do

The Tax Counsel will support various state and local tax issues, with responsibilities that may include:

  • State tax planning to optimize business transactions
  • Researching state tax issues
  • Drafting appeals protests
  • Responding to information document requests
  • Participating in informal/administrative hearings process
  • Negotiating resolutions
  • Supporting outside counsel in tax litigation matters
About you

We are seeking an attorney with a strong background in State Controversy, who possesses the following qualifications:

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in multi-state tax controversy
  • Minimum of a J.D.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one state

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Tax LL.M. preferred
  • Adds value by collaborating effectively with colleagues, clients and other support functions
  • Shares knowledge to develop capabilities of the whole team
