The Criminal Investigation Division of the West Virginia Tax Division seeks a Tax Audit Clerk Senior to support CID operations by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data to produce reports. Under limited supervision, you will examine tax returns, prepare briefs for investigators, and assist in enforcement strategy while coordinating with analysts and stakeholders.
Associate degree required; four years of relevant experience or substitution via math/accounting coursework may be considered.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the West Virginia Tax Division is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Tax Audit Clerk Senior. Under limited supervision, this position will provide critical support to the section by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data from a variety of sources to produce reports and other documentation and by entering tax information related to CID operations into GenTax.

Employment requires a fingerprint-based criminal-background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division’s expense. Failing to initiate the process or cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered. The chosen applicant will also be subject to a tax compliance check.
Associate degree from an accredited college or university. At the appointing agency's discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying degree. The qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
OR
Additional experience as described below may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.
AND
Four (4) years of experience at the State Tax Division, or four (4) years of experience in providing accounting support and/or clerical office support.
OR
Successful completion of a course of study in an accredited college or university which included three (3) semester hours of math and/or accounting may substitute for the experience as described above at a rate of thirty (30) semester hours of training for every one (1) year of experience.
