The West Virginia Tax Division's Criminal Investigation Division seeks a Tax Audit Clerk to support data gathering, analysis and reporting for CID operations. This role also involves entering tax information into GenTax and helping ensure compliance with tax laws.
Responsibilities include examining returns, analyzing data from multiple sources, drafting detailed reports for management, and assisting with tax form development and correspondence for the investigative team.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the West Virginia Tax Division is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Tax Audit Clerk. Under general supervision, this position will provide critical support to the section by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data from a variety of sources to produce reports and other documentation and by entering tax information related to CID operations into GenTax.

Employment requires a fingerprint-based criminal-background check to be provided at the West Virginia Tax Division’s expense. Failing to initiate the process or cooperate with this process, providing false or incomplete information, or discovery of disqualifying information will result in denial of, or dismissal from, employment or denial of transfer irrespective of when discovered. The chosen applicant will also be subject to a tax compliance check.
Associate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying degree. The qualifying degree must be verified before the employee may be certified as permanent.
Two (2) years of experience at the State Tax Division OR two (2) years of experience in providing accounting support and/or clerical office support may be substituted for the required training.
Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent paid part-time experience in providing accounting support and/or clerical office support, OR two (2) years of experience at the State Tax Division.
