Job Summary:
Tax Network USA is seeking a skilled Tax Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will have experience representing clients in tax matters and will take a lead role in managing cases before federal and state tax authorities. This role requires strong analytical skills, legal expertise, and the ability to provide practical, client-focused solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in matters involving the IRS and state taxing authorities, including audits, collections, and appeals.
- Communicate directly with the IRS and state taxing authorities by telephone on a regular basis, including spending a significant portion of the workday on calls with revenue officers, agents, and other government representatives to advance and resolve client matters.
- Analyze client tax matters, financial records, tax returns, IRS transcripts, notices, and supporting documentation to determine eligibility for tax relief programs and develop appropriate resolution strategies.
- Draft and review legal and tax-related documents, including Powers of Attorney (POA), tax relief submissions, responses to notices, legal correspondence, and settlement proposals.
- Negotiate directly with IRS and state tax agents regarding tax liabilities, collection matters, and available resolution options.
- Advise clients regarding available tax resolution programs and strategies, including installment agreements, offers in compromise, penalty abatement, collection alternatives, and other available remedies.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and provide guidance on complex federal and state tax matters.
- Maintain direct and regular communication with clients regarding case status, strategy, documentation requirements, deadlines, and resolutions.
- Collaborate with Case Managers, Paralegals, and other team members to develop and implement effective resolution strategies.
- Manage an active caseload while ensuring case documentation, deadlines, compliance requirements, and client records are accurately maintained.
- Stay current on developments in federal and state tax law, IRS procedures, and tax resolution practices.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing; California Bar admission preferred.
- 2+ years of experience practicing tax law, tax resolution, or tax controversy preferred.
- Experience representing clients before the IRS or state taxing authorities strongly preferred.
- Comfortable spending a significant portion of the workday communicating by telephone with the IRS, state taxing authorities, clients, and other parties.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax matters, IRS procedures, and tax resolution strategies.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and government agencies.
- Strong organizational and case-management skills with the ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with IRS collection procedures and tax relief programs such as Offers in Compromise, Installment Agreements, and Currently Not Collectible status.
- Experience managing complex client cases independently.
